Vote to Adopt 2026 Property Tax Rate
The board is scheduled to vote on the 2026-2027 budget and the property tax rate that will fund it. This is the single most important vote of the year for taxpayers, as it determines how much homeowners and businesses will pay. With rising property values, even an unchanged or ‘lower’ tax rate can result in a significant tax increase if it exceeds the no-new-revenue rate.
Response
PACK THE ROOM: This is the most important meeting of the year for your wallet. Show up on August 26th and demand the board adopt the ‘No-New-Revenue’ tax rate. Contact the board to insist they hold the line on spending and protect taxpayers from a tax hike driven by rising property values.
π° Impact: A potential property tax increase above what is needed to generate the same revenue as the prior year.

Earmarking District Savings Ahead of Tax Vote
The board plans to pass a resolution to ‘commit the Fund Balance.’ This is an accounting move that sets aside the district’s savings for future projects. While it can be a tool for planning, it can also be used to make the district’s cash reserves appear smaller, creating a justification to adopt a higher property tax rate than necessary.
Response
DEMAND THE DETAILS: Before the vote on the tax rate, contact the board and ask: ‘Why is the fund balance being committed now? How does this impact the calculation of the proposed tax rate? Taxpayers deserve to know if the district’s savings are being used to justify a higher tax bill.’
π° Impact: Using an accounting maneuver to justify a higher tax levy by making cash reserves seem unavailable for general use.

Student ‘Safety Survey’ Data Review
The board is reviewing a ‘Safety Survey’ conducted over the past three years. While physical safety is a priority, these surveys can sometimes be used as ‘school climate’ surveys to collect sensitive, non-academic data from students about their thoughts, feelings, and home life. Parents have a right to know what questions were asked and who has access to the data.
Response
DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Contact the board and ask for the ‘2023-2026 Safety Survey’ questions to be posted publicly. Ask: ‘What data is being collected on students, who owns the data, and is there a clear opt-out policy for parents?’
π° Impact: Collection of sensitive student data without full parental transparency or a clear opt-out process.
