🚨 Alert (LEVEL 9)
Hidalgo ISD to Set 2026 Property Tax Rate
πŸ“… August 25, 2026
Hidalgo ISD is holding a public hearing to discuss and vote on the 2026-2027 budget and property tax rate. This is the most critical meeting of the year for homeowners, as it determines the size of their school tax bill. Officials may claim to be ‘lowering the rate,’ but rising property values often mean the district takes more money from taxpayers overall. The key benchmark is the ‘no-new-revenue rate’β€”the rate that would bring in the same amount of money as last year. Any rate above that is a tax increase.
Response

ATTEND THE PUBLIC HEARING: Show up on August 25th and ask the board three questions before they vote: 1. What is the no-new-revenue tax rate? 2. What is the proposed tax rate? 3. How much more in total tax dollars will the district collect from taxpayers this year compared to last year? Demand they adopt the no-new-revenue rate.

πŸ’° Impact: A potential property tax increase, even if the rate is advertised as a ‘cut’.
