Heads up! Our parent watchdogs have scanned the upcoming agenda for Township of Ocean School District. We found 2 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
🚨 HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 8)
Mandatory FAFSA Filing for Graduation
📅 August 25, 2026
The district is revising graduation requirements (Policy 5460) to force students to file a FAFSA or state financial aid application to receive their diploma. This makes sharing sensitive family financial data with the government a condition for graduation, regardless of whether a student plans to attend college or seek aid.
Recommended Action Plan

PACK THE ROOM: This is a second reading and final vote. Contact the Board (see the Official Agenda link for details): ‘Graduation must be based on academic merit, not on surrendering our family’s private financial data to the government. Vote NO on the FAFSA mandate in Policy 5460.’

✅ Wins to Defend
Good moves worth showing up to support so they stick.
Major Win (LEVEL 9)
“Bell-to-Bell” Cell Phone Ban Adopted
📅 August 25, 2026
The Board is adopting a new policy (P 5516) that prohibits student use of personal cell phones and other internet-enabled devices during the entire school day. This is a huge step toward restoring academic focus in the classroom and reducing distractions and cyberbullying.
How to Lock It In

AMPLIFY THIS WIN: Show up to thank the Board for passing Policy 5516. Publicly praising this common-sense policy makes it harder to weaken or reverse later and provides a model for other districts to follow.
