The district is voting on a new ‘Long-Term Independent Study’ policy hidden on the consent agenda. Buried inside is a ‘Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)’ framework that triggers interventions for students not meeting progress goals, including connecting them with ‘health and social services’ and probing for ‘mental health’ issues.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: This policy is on the ‘Consent Agenda’ to be passed without discussion. Contact the District Office (see the Official Agenda link) and demand that Board Members pull Item 5.1 for a separate discussion and vote. Ask them: ‘What specific ‘health and social services’ will students be connected to, and will you guarantee explicit, written parental consent is required before any mental health intervention or screening?’
