Heads up! Our parent watchdogs have scanned the upcoming agenda for Columbus City. We found 3 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
| 🚨 HIGH CONCERN (LEVEL 9) |
|
Tripling No-Bid Spending Limit to $75,000
The committee is advancing a proposal to increase the amount of money the district can spend without specific Board approval from $25,000 to $75,000. This change makes it easier to hire controversial consultants or purchase ideological curriculum with far less public scrutiny.
Recommended Action Plan
DEMAND A VOTE: This proposal allows the district to spend up to $75,000 without a public board vote. Email Treasurer Ryan Cook at rcook1@columbus.k12.oh.us and Superintendent Angela Chapman at superintendent@columbus.k12.oh.us: ‘Parents demand full transparency on all spending. I oppose any increase to the procurement threshold in Board Policy 6320.’
💰 Taxpayer Impact: Reduced Financial Oversight

| ⚠️ NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 7) |
|
Reducing Community Voice on Finance Committee
The committee voted to reduce the minimum number of required community members on its charter from four down to two. This weakens direct parent and taxpayer oversight on the very committee responsible for the district’s financial and operational planning.
Recommended Action Plan
DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: This change was approved in committee and is being sent to the full Board. Call Board President Christina Vera at (614) 365-5000: ‘Do not reduce community oversight on the ETRM committee. We need more parent voices on financial matters, not fewer. Vote NO on amending the committee charter.’
💰 Taxpayer Impact: Reduced Parent Oversight

Data-Driven ‘Equity’ Plan for School Resources
A committee member presented a framework for a ‘building scorecard’ to guide future facility and resource decisions based on ‘equitable’ and ‘holistic’ factors. This could become a vehicle for diverting resources based on neighborhood politics or social justice metrics rather than academic needs.
Recommended Action Plan
ASK THE HARD QUESTIONS: This ‘scorecard’ could be used to defund successful schools in the name of ‘equity.’ Email Superintendent Angela Chapman at superintendent@columbus.k12.oh.us: ‘Regarding the facility scorecard concept, what specific, objective academic metrics will be prioritized over vague terms like ‘community context’ to ensure resources follow students, not political agendas?’
💰 Taxpayer Impact: Resources Tied to Politics
