Heads up! Our parent watchdogs have scanned the upcoming agenda for Middletown Township Public School District. We found 2 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
👀 MONITOR (LEVEL 5)
Strict 30-Minute Cap on Public Comment
📅 2026-08-17
The board has placed a total 30-minute time limit on the entire public comment period. This can be used to silence parents by ending the comment session prematurely, even if many people are still waiting to speak on critical issues.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TO BE HEARD: Contact the Board of Education (see the Official Agenda link for contact details): ‘The 30-minute total time limit for public comment is insufficient. We request the Board President commit to extending the comment period to ensure every parent who signs up gets to speak.’

💰 Taxpayer Impact: Suppressed Parent Voice
ALERT (LEVEL 3)
Meeting Starts Behind Closed Doors
📅 2026-08-17
The meeting begins at 5:30 PM but is immediately closed to the public for an indefinite period to interview Superintendent candidates. This format forces parents to wait, potentially for a long time, before the public portion of the meeting even begins, which can discourage participation.
Recommended Action Plan

Monitor: Note this practice of starting meetings in closed session. If it becomes a pattern, demand the Board schedule executive sessions after the public business is concluded to respect parents’ time.

💰 Taxpayer Impact: Reduced Public Access
