Heads up! Our parent watchdogs have scanned the upcoming agenda for CCSD 89. We found 2 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
👀 MONITOR (LEVEL 5)
New ‘Threat Assessment Team’ to Monitor Students
📅 2026-08-17
The district is approving a state-mandated “Threat Assessment Team” to identify and intervene with students deemed a potential threat. While intended for violence prevention, this creates a formal surveillance team with the power to assess children, and parents must ensure its scope remains strictly limited to credible safety concerns, not behavioral or ideological profiling.
Recommended Action Plan

DEMAND TRANSPARENCY: Contact the District Office (see the Official Agenda link) and ask: ‘Regarding Item 9.E, where can parents review the full Threat Assessment Procedure and the specific criteria used to identify a student as a threat? We must ensure this team’s focus is on safety, not monitoring student speech or beliefs.’

Good moves worth showing up to support so they stick.
Major Win (LEVEL 8)
District Directs New State Funds to the Classroom, Not Bureaucrats
📅 2026-08-17
The district’s state-required “Evidence-Based Funding Spending Plan” is a major win for parents and students. The plan allocates new funding to core academic roles like teachers and interventionists, avoiding ideological programs or administrative bloat.
How to Lock It In

AMPLIFY THIS WIN: Show up or email the Board (contact info on district website) to thank them for approving the budget and the EBF spending plan (Item 11.A). Specifically praise their focus on funding core teachers and academic support. This public support makes it harder for them to change course later and provides a model for other districts.
