Heads up! Our parent watchdogs have scanned the upcoming agenda for Mount Clemens Community School District. We found 2 items that need your immediate attention before the vote.
⚠️ NEEDS REVIEW (LEVEL 6)
Vague Title — Manual Review Required
📅 2026-08-12
The board is approving a “Contract Listing” without disclosing the vendors or services in the main agenda. This could be routine, or it could be a way to approve controversial consultants or services without public scrutiny.
Recommended Action Plan

INVESTIGATE: Open the file attached to Item 6.C in the Official Agenda (linked above) to confirm whether it contains contracts with ideological vendors like DEI consultants or SEL curriculum providers.

💰 Taxpayer Impact: Undisclosed
👀 MONITOR (LEVEL 5)
Curriculum Renewal with Potential for Bias
📅 2026-08-12
The district is renewing its contract for NewsELA, a supplemental curriculum provider for English, Science, and Social Studies. While presented as a tool for reading comprehension, NewsELA has been criticized for curating articles with a strong ideological bias, potentially exposing students to one-sided viewpoints on sensitive social and political topics.
Recommended Action Plan

ASK QUESTIONS: Contact the District Office (see the Official Agenda link) and ask: ‘Regarding Item 8.A, what is the process for parental review of the articles and content provided by NewsELA? How does the district ensure the material is age-appropriate and free from political bias?’

💰 Taxpayer Impact: Undisclosed Renewal Cost
